History Hotel Guest House Vierhouten
For nearly 100 years a guest house!
In 1909, this guest house was still 'The Oldenhof' (later 'The Lindehoeve). When an artist paints the farm of husband and wife Frank and Maartje Schouten-Hop, they invite him in for a cup of coffee. After this pleasant encounter the artist returns to visit them later on with his wife. The foundation for the pension is laid. Especially so, when Camping association committee of the Dutch Grammer- School Student asked Frank Schouten for a place to sleep in his farm. When Frank’s wife Maartje served a hearty breakfast the following morning the guest house "The Oldenhof ' was a fact. It soon became too small to house the many guests who wished to stay in the Vierhouten area. A second guest house was built right next to it named "Schouten”. From 1935 to the eighties the building served as a residence for nurses and as a medical centre for the Philadelphia Foundation Services. In 1980 the family Kerklaan purchased the building and the history of the accommodation as a guest house was continued. Since January 3, 2008 Bas and Valerie Tiemens are the owners and your hosts of this historic and traditional building equipped with all the modern standards of the 21st century.
We want everyone to feel at home in our hotel. Our hotel is very pleasant to stay at and it exudes calm. In the Veluwe district you will find that every season offers its own spectrum of colours in the forests with its gnarled trees. Each tree has its own leaf and its own story. Therefore, the 14 rooms of Hotel Guest House Vierhouten are named after a leaf of one of these trees. So who knows, you might be sleeping in the Oak or in the Gelderland Rose room during your stay! The interior is a combination of antique and modern. We have standard rooms, rooms with a garden or balcony (at an additional cost), but also larger rooms with extra beds, offering room for up to 4 people. The rooms located on the first floor can be reached via the stairs. Guide dogs are welcome in the hotel.
Joy and peace is not only to be found in the hotel guest house but also in the food we serve. In the near future we intend to make homemade jams, chutneys, cakes and food with fruit and herbs harvested from our own fruit trees and shrubs. All this will take a couple of years, but bit-by-bit we will be able to add more of our own natural and delicious homemade dishes to the menu.
In the restaurant and conservatory we serve breakfast and dinner. Dinner is solely for our guests. Dinner consists of a fixed, but varied Dutch three-course meal. Dietary requirements in consultation!
High Tea / Lunch:
High tea and lunch are possible in consultation. In the winter months we have limited opening hours for high tea (2 to 6 persons). We accept Bongo vouchers. A very nice gift for friends and family!
Bar / lounge:
In our cosy bar we intend to make you feel right at home. From 18.00 hours hotel guests can pour their own drinks. In the lounge we also want you to feel at home. Watch a good film or play a game of Scrabble, anything is possible! Of course, relaxing with a glass of wine is another pleasant alternative!
Reception:
In the reception area you will find our home library with books on
the Veluwe district, novels or detectives. Brochures about the
Vierhouten area can also be found in the information stand near
reception. We offer more than 10 marked cycling routes and walks
varying from to 4 to 20 kilometres: there is something for everyone.
Garden and terrace:
In the back garden you can relax and enjoy the sun on our sun
beds and lounge in comfortable chairs. In front of the hotel, adjacent
to the conservatory, we have a terrace where you can also relax.
